Modernization 4 WWTP's

In 2017 the Dutch Waterboard Fryslân launched a tender for the modernization of chemical dosing and odour treatment systems at their WWTP’s Terschelling, Vlieland, Warns and Lemmer (all located in the northern part of the Netherlands). Early 2018, the project is awarded to the Joint Venture ELIQUO - Van Hattum and Blankevoort. The project is having a value of around 1.5 million Euros, and should lead to upgrading of respected installations so that actual requirements and regulations are being met.

The project is awarded based on best economic affordable offer and its price / quality ratio. Important tender evaluation criteria were the overall understanding of the critical project planning, a logistic plan (working at the "islands in the Dutch Wadden sea") and testing & commissioning of all systems prior to installation.

Two of the four project locations are located on the Islands Terschelling and Vlieland in the Wadden Sea. Therefore, the logistical organization will be crucial to manage the project within the given time frame. The island of Vlieland is car-free and on both locations the project execution should not coincide with the tourist season. Planning and coordination are therefore crucial and our Joint Venture is experienced for this kind of tasks and take it as a challenge.

Both companies of the Joint Venture regularly cooperates in projects for Dutch water boards. In fact, Wetterskip Fryslân has already gained experience with both companies. The modernization of the sludge line at WWTP Drachten and installation of a new combined heat and power (CHP) system at the Franeker WWTP were both successfully completed in 2017.

The four individual construction sites at the involved  WWTPs will become registered as building sites for ‘Bewuste Bouwers’ (Conscious Builders) (www.bewustebouwers.nl). This is a code of conduct for construction sites focusing on five important pillars: Consciousness, Safety, Environmental awareness, taking care of social improvement and innovation & professionalization of environmental behaviour.
